Dr. Dixie Lee Ray

Dr. Dixie Lee Ray (1914-1994), scientist, marine biologist, recipient of the United Nations Peace Prize and former Governor of Washington State, authored the best selling Trashing the Planet, a common-sense book dealing with the contentious issues where science and politics overlap and where environmentalism moves from well-meaning idealism to counterproductive eco-terrorism. She was also chairperson of the Atomic Energy Commission, where she created the Department of Safety in order to make the use of nuclear energy safer.
